My 10-Year Journey with yoga

Last year, in November 2024, I celebrate a deeply personal milestone: 10 years of practicing yoga in the Satyananda tradition. As I reflect on this journey, I realize how profoundly yoga has shaped my life, guiding me through both beautiful and challenging times. This blog is my way of honoring this path, sharing how I evolved from a curious beginner to a dedicated teacher, and how yoga became my anchor through life’s ups and downs.

The Beginning: A Mother Seeking Balance

In November 2014, I was a new mother searching for balance. With my husband traveling often, I felt the weight of motherhood, navigating anxiety and sleepless nights. I had practiced yoga here and there before, but this time, I wanted something deeper, something just for me. That’s when I discovered Prakriti School of Yoga and stepped into my deep relationship with yoga.

From that very first session, I felt the magic. I loved the movement, but what truly captivated me was yoga nidra. The deep relaxation practice became my refuge, my 10 minutes of evening non-negotiable peace each day and I also added the 10 minutes of homework practice, mostly in the morning. My son, then just two years old, would watch me do my practice, sometimes joining in, sometimes simply playing nearby. Morning or night, no matter how hectic life was, yoga nidra became my sacred ritual.

A Journey to the Roots of Yoga

As my practice deepened, so did my curiosity. In 2016, I traveled to Bihar School of Yoga in India, immersing myself in the ashram’s yogic lifestyle. It was a transformational experience that sparked a realization—I didn’t just want to practice yoga; I wanted to share it.

Since my son was already mimicking my practice and I was working with children in an after-school program, I naturally gravitated toward teaching yoga for children. In 2018, I pursued certifications in children’s yoga and started leading classes, witnessing firsthand how yoga could shape young minds and bodies.

Turning to Yoga for Healing

As the years passed, yoga remained my constant, in the continuous changes of life. But life, as it does…, brought profound challenges. The pandemic came, and with it, I experienced the deep loss of a family member. Grief overwhelmed me, and once again, I turned to the practice that had always been there for me.

This time, yoga was more about healing. I leaned deeper into yoga nidra and restorative yoga, finding moments of relief amidst the pain.Experiencing the benefits even more profoundly I went on studying the science behind these practices, eventually earning my certification in yoga nidra in 2021 and restorative yoga in 2023.

Through my own healing, I felt called to share these transformative practices with others. I began offering restorative yoga and yoga nidra sessions, witnessing how these gentle yet powerful tools could bring comfort to those struggling with stress, anxiety or loss.

Looking Forward: Expanding My Teaching to Women’s Well-Being

Now, as I step into my next decade with yoga, I am expanding my focus. I am deepening my studies in women’s health, of course always a student and always from me going through my own health challenges, exploring how yoga can support women at every stage of life, from menstrual health to perimenopause, menopause, and post-surgery recovery. My goal is to help women feel at ease in their bodies, embracing every transition with confidence and self-care.

I am excited to soon offer women’s classes that go beyond deep rest—creating a space for holistic healing, self-discovery, and empowerment.

Gratitude for the Journey

Looking back, I see how every moment, every class, every challenge, every breath has shaped my path. From a new mother searching to calm my anxiety, to a lifetime student and a yoga teacher dedicated to helping others on their path to regaining or maintaining their wellbeing , these 10 years have been a journey of transformation.

And now, as I celebrate this milestone, I step forward with an open heart, ready for the next chapter, full of gratitude to all my teachers and my whole journey so far .

This blog is born out of that journey, is a a space for rest, yoga, healing, and life itself. A place where women’s stories, transitions, and resilience are honored. A haven for those seeking serenity, peace, and restoration.

This is a journey towards deep rest, healing, and renewal—one that I invite you to take with me.

With gratitude, ‘The spoon of chocolate for the soul’
